What if we are on vacation when preseason or regular practices begin, or when equipment pick up days are held?
We are aware that summer is vacation time for many families. You should advise your child’s coach as to when you will be on vacation. Your coach will advise you of equipment make up dates or you can
check our web-site calendar
What team will my child play on?
All teams are based on player’s weight and age. The most competitive team we field at each weight level will play in the Big 10 Division and with few exceptions, will play on Sundays. If there are enough players for additional teams the remaining players will play on Saturdays in the Pac 10 Division. If there are sufficient players for more than one Saturday team in a weight level, the talent will be split evenly.
How are the players divided between Big 10 and Pac 10?
Our objective is to give every player an equal opportunity to play at the most competitive level that their skill, potential and desire allows them. To accomplish this objective, all players within a weight category will begin practicing as a group. Coaches for Big 10 and Pac 10 teams will administrate these practices and begin evaluating players. Ideally, players will practice for at least one week with equipment before teams are selected. All coaches for the weight category will have input to the decision on players for Big 10 or Pac 10 play. The final decision is up to the Big 10 head coach.
What if my child has health problems or allergies?
If your child has any health problems or concerns such as asthma, allergies (especially to bee stings), etc. parents should make sure that the player has appropriate medication available to them during practices and games which is clearly marked with their name. Parents should also ensure that the coaching staff is always updated of a players health conditions before and during the season, especially EXERCISED INDUCED ASTHMA and it’s warning signs for each specific player.
If my player is not initially select for the Big 10 team, will they have the opportunity to move to Big 10 during the season?
By TCYFL rules, team rosters must be finalized before the 4th weekend of scheduled games, or by the 4th game if no games have been canceled or rescheduled. Pac 10 players wishing to be reevaluated for play with the Big 10 team at the appropriate weight level must so advise their coach. The Pac 10 coach will then advise the Big 10 coach who may choose to arrange for the player to practice (and perhaps play) with the Big 10 team to be evaluated for play with that team. However, no player can play more than one game each weekend. The Big 10 head coach and/or assistants may attend the Pac 10 players’ Saturday game to help evaluate the players’ potential. Ideally, the evaluation will occur between the 2nd and 3rd games, but could be earlier if the situation is appropriate. The final decision is up to the Big 10 head coach, who will communicate their decision to the player AND the players’ parent(s).
When does practice begin?
Practice schedules are determined by individual coaches. All levels will hold “preseason conditioning” practice sessions during late July/early August. These practices are without equipment and have no contact. Until your player is assigned to a specific team, a weight level coordinator will advise players of the practice schedule by phone or e-mail. After teams are assigned, your player’s coach will set and communicate the practice schedule.

What if my child cannot make a practice?
We are aware that children have other responsibilities. However, you and your child are responsible for contacting the coach whenever you'll be unable to make practice, arrive late or must leave early. Your player’s coach will go over team rules at the beginning of the season that include missed practices. Missed practices could impact your player’s playing time and desired position.
How are changes to practice times changed or canceled?
Each coach will establish the team’s communication process for such changes. Some might use phone trees, some e-mail, etc. E-mail is becoming the preferred and most effective way to communicate quickly and effectively with a team of up to 24 players. Some coaches require parents to check their e-mail for possible practice schedule changes as short as 30 minutes before scheduled time. It is the players and parents responsibility to understand the system used by their team and contribute to its effectiveness.
What happens in case of inclement weather?
For GAME CANCELLATIONS due to weather of field conditions, call our Weather Hotline at 847-381-0881. In the case of thunder/lightening during a practice or game, all players will be immediately required to leave the field and seek shelter. Each coach will determine as to whether they will cancel the remainder of the practice or wait it out. You should discuss this procedure with your player’s coach at the outset of the season.
When will we get a game schedule?
Our game schedule is set by the league we are affiliated with, the Tri County Youth Football League (TCYFL). The schedules for both the Saturday (Pac 10) and Sunday (Big 10) teams are received at the same time, a week or two before games begin. Schedules are distributed as soon as they are received and can be found on
the TCYFL web-site.

There is a BYF Refund Policy for players that decide not to play before equipment is issued.
